Quality assurance

Quality assurance is an umbrella term for several instruments which are concerned with the monitoring and development of quality. These instruments include ↑evaluation, ↑accreditation, benchmarking and quality management tools. The promotion of European cooperation in quality assurance with a view to developing comparable criteria and methodologies is one of the main objectives of the ↑Bologna Process. In the Berlin Communiqué (2003), the European Ministers agreed that national quality assurance systems should include -  a definition of the responsibilities of the bodies and institutions involved; -  evaluation of programmes or institutions, including internal assessment, external review, participation of students and the publication of results; -  a system of accreditation, certification or comparable procedures; -  international participation, cooperation and networking.[1] In the Bergen Communiqué (2005), the ↑Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area as proposed by ↑ENQA were adopted.[2]
